God guides and He provides: Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you - Exodus 25:9

God Guides and He Provides

We all know the verses that remind us that God will guide our footsteps, that He is “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). But do we actually believe that God wants to guide us in the everyday decisions we make? Do we stop to ask Him which direction to take, or do we simply fall back into our patterns, thinking we can handle things on our own?

Too often, we only run to Him when things go wrong. But what if we started asking for His guidance before we act, instead of after we fail?

God’s Detailed Guidance

As I’ve been reading through Exodus, one thing stands out about Moses: God told him exactly what to do, right down to the finest details.

It’s easy to think those long chapters of laws and instructions are boring, but have you ever realized how much of it is God speaking directly to Moses? Page after page, God gives him specific instructions on how to build the ark of the covenant (Exodus 25:10-22), what materials to use, what dimensions to follow, how to make the curtains of the tabernacle (Exodus 26), and even which colors of linen to use.

That’s detailed! And yet we often think our daily decisions, what to say, where to go, or what job to take, are too small to ask God about.

But this pattern of divine guidance runs all throughout the Bible.

  • God told Noah exactly how to build the ark: its length, breadth, and height (Genesis 6:14-16).
  • God told the prophets precisely what to say to His people (Jeremiah 1:7-9, Ezekiel 3:4).
  • Even Jesus said He only did what He saw His Father doing (John 5:19).

If God guided them so clearly, why would He not do the same for us?

Making Time for His Presence

Moses went up Mount Sinai for forty days to receive God’s instructions (Exodus 24:18). I’m not saying we should all disappear into the mountains for forty days, though if you can, that’s wonderful. But for most of us, life is full of responsibilities, work, family, and commitments. Still, do we intentionally make time to be in His presence?

Even an hour a day to sit quietly before Him, not just speaking, but listening, can change everything.

The world is messy. Distractions are everywhere. We must be intentional about spending time with God to receive His guidance. Imagine the difference it would make in our lives, families, communities, and even economies if believers everywhere turned back to God and sought His direction. Kingdom businesses would rise, people would find healing, and nations could be transformed (2 Chronicles 7:14).

When God Gets Your Attention

I’m guilty of this too, getting so consumed by the busyness of life that I don’t make enough time for Him. By the time I get home, I just want to switch off because everything feels overwhelming. But then I remember: our strength is found in the Lord (Nehemiah 8:10).

Lately, I’ve noticed God trying to get my attention. I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night or half an hour before my alarm. At first, I was frustrated. I’m already tired, why am I waking up? But this morning, it finally clicked: just start praying.

I don’t want to walk through life alone. I want God involved in every single detail, whether it’s what to say to someone or whether to stay in a job. I know He will guide me, because He promised to. “For He is not a man, that He should lie” (Numbers 23:19). His promises are true, and His Word is trustworthy.

The Real Battle

But the truth is, the enemy doesn’t want us to pray. The accuser wants to wear us down, to keep us distracted, too tired to read the Word or spend time with God. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10).

So, what do you do when you recognize that something is trying to tear you down?

For me, it makes me want to fight. But I fight on my knees.

So, I ask you today: Where is your mountain?
Where is that place where you meet with God, where you seek His guidance, where you quiet your soul to hear His voice? Because just like Moses had Mount Sinai, you and I need a place of stillness and surrender.

A Prayer for Guidance

Abba Father,
You are the Creator of heaven and earth, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13). You are the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16). Everything belongs to You, yet You chose that I should be born for a time such as this (Esther 4:14).

Lord, You know the plans You have for me (Jeremiah 29:11). Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).
I ask that Your Holy Spirit align my body, soul, and spirit with my true identity in Christ. Guide my footsteps in every step I take (Proverbs 3:5-6; Psalm 37:23). Make Your voice so clear that I cannot hear anything else but You. Align my thoughts with Your thoughts. Help me to be a light to this world (Matthew 5:14-16).

Thank You, Abba Father, that Your promises are “Yes and Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20), and that You hear my prayer.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
